Commitment

I'm wondering if I have a problem with commitment...in fact, I'm not even sure I spelled it right, which could be Freudian.

I don't seem to keep up on things like blogging, answering emails, or returning phone calls.

On the other hand, I've had a wonderful relationship for twenty years with an incredible person, I'm insane about the supplements and routines of the horses I take care of. Maybe that just means I only commit to the things that I find important. I guess that means my blog will only be updated at irregular intervals.

The most wonderful time of the year.....

It's almost here...can you stand it? Can you guess what I'm talking about?

It's almost FOOTBALL SEASON and I am a rabid Jacksonville Jaguars fan. I feel just like Vic Ketchum, the sports writer on staff with the Jags.

Vic had this to say today: I need to see a couple of preseason games. I need to see some real blocking and tackling. I’ve been watching pass-routes practice since the beginning of May and I’ve grown weary of it. I need to see real football and, fortunately, it’s only a week away.

GO JAGS!!!

Robin Hood and Underwear

" I'll organize revolt, exact a death for a death, and I'll never rest until every Saxon in this shire can stand up free men and strike a blow for Richard and England!"

Errol Flynn's Robin Hood was the best version, it captures the soul of the legend.

That, and he made me believe it when he said that line.

On another note, my Perfect Victorian Outfit (hereafter referred to as the PVO) has entered production.  The combinations are cut out of a lovely 100% cotton batiste that a friend gifted me with.  This batiste is the real thing, purchased at a mill in Pennsylvania where Amish women buy their quilt making fabrics.  A well-brought up American lady in 1880 would have worn nothing else.  (But someday I want to be a naughty Parisian lady in some silk ones!)

I have also cut out the first corset mock up.  We'll see how it goes...

Title? I don't need no stinkin' title....

Having to title every blog post is frankly annoying. Last time I checked, no one ever titled every diary entry in the old dark days of using pen and paper. Ok, rant over, but it's still a valid point.

I broke both a needle on the sewing machine and the serger the other day within 10 minutes of each other. Anyone else have sewing days like that? Sometimes it goes together perfectly and some days everything you touch becomes a problem. My mother told me many years ago that when that happens, the best thing you can do is walk away. She was right, I walked away that day.

I'm back at it again and currently finishing up a Victorian fan tail skirt with a matching shrug. It's black velvet, purple panne' velvet with black tulle that has purple sparklies on it. It's not perfect period Victorian, but I'm hoping it will make a Goth or Steampunk lady very happy.

Rory has done a hero's work putting stuff up on Etsy. I couldn't even sell Girl Scout cookies as a kid, so thank goodness the one who can sell ice cubes to Eskimos has taken over that portion of things.

Oh and remember that perfect outfit I mentioned in my first post? On Friday I'm visiting with a friend who is going to tweak my pattern fitting and let me raid her fabulous fabric stash for the project. More on that as it develops!

A good surprise

Well, logged into Etsy just past midnight and found out I had my first sale!

My little black velvet and silver scallop brocade bodice is on its way to British Columbia as we speak!

Here goes

As it says in the blog information, I created this blog because of Etsy.

I have a small Etsy shop with a few of my sewing creations. I make everything from medieval to steampunk, so if you are looking for something for a convention, Renn fair, etc. stop by and check it out at http://www.amsterdames.etsy.com

Yes, that was a shamless plug, deal with it.

Perhaps eventually, I'll have a dress diary or two that goes up here, since I have a fabulous, from the skin out, Victorian Natural Form dress planned. Yeah, planned...for almost a year....did I mention I can also be called "Queen of the Slackers"? I own the patterns, have the measurements done and have actually cut out the combinations pattern. I have the material for them too...yeah...I'll get to that...

In the meantime, I follow some incrediblely talented ladies over at the Truly Victorian forums http://www.trulyvictorian.netfirms.com/testboard/phpBB2/index.php and at Belle Alley http://www.carolinabelles.net/vb/index.php

For a living, I manage a small hobby farm for an eye doctor and many weekends you will find me at dressage shows taking care of show clients. In my spare time, I sew and write.

I also play way too much EverQuest. My level 85 cleric is the leader of the Shatter Ring, a guild on the Bristlebane server. Yes, my geek is showing...putting it away now, no one really wants to see that.

That's all for now and no promises about how soon there may be other posts...I'm a slacker ya know....
